Team, Team, Team.
CoCoNat - a workation retreat

Team, team, team. Yes, it's a phrase. And yet so true - the team is crucial to the success and investor maturity of a startup. In times of remote work, it's also a key skill to develop a team through purposeful stays away from the office.
So the SIBB Startups' trip to Brandenburg last weekend was both: an exciting journey to their own personalities and those of their team members. And at the same time a template of how a team retreat could look like, which later helps to accompany the own startup and its growth.
CoCoNat - a workation retreat
The place of places: the CoCoNat (Community and Concentrated Work in Nature) in Klein Glien near Bad Belzig in Brandenburg.
Workation is the name of the concept that is lived here: Work and Vacation in one. The former estate has been lovingly renovated with a lot of passion and creativity. Common meals for all, retreat rooms, community offers, a trust bar and inexpensive overnight accommodations make it easy to feel at home here.
The challenge: achieving depth with ease
Program Manager Etta Dannemann and Head Coach Urte Zahn linked program modules and free time to create a coherent overall experience. The startups of the current group of the SIBB Incubator also contributed intensively and were ready to engage in something new. Thus, the distance to Berlin could be used to get to know each other better and to question familiar roles.
Personal development workshops
In line with the personal approach, the three-day event started with a workshop by Arvid Nienhaus on body language and voice. Followed by two workshops with Urte Zahn, which enabled a journey into the inner self and team members. The following methods were used:
The three pillars of positive intelligence (PQ) to use mental energy more effectively.
Values in action (VIA) with 24 character strengths defined cross-culturally in research.
The Belbin Team Test, which teams could use to see team blind spots and potential more clearly.
Community part
The great community part revealed hidden talents and valuable knowledge with a wink:
Create your own compelling Monitor Case by Mitja Eichhorn.
The hidden corners of Iceland by Jenna Bjork Gudmundsdottir
How to build a corporate structure in Germany that benefits you and your startup by Daariq A. Yusuf
Ask me anything about technology by Jonas Peeck
Making pesto in all colors by Susa Horvath
Games and exercise
The evening included an evening hike with mulled wine by Visit Dark Skies founder Etta Dannemann, where teams learned that it takes 25 minutes to fully adjust their eyes to the dark.
Finally, the games Assassin, Liberals/Fascists, Ping-Pong and the BBC documentary "Make me a German" helped the group bond - a big thanks goes to the teams who contributed numerous ideas and made the weekend an intense experience together.
A milestone for the current startup community
In the final round, it was evident that many had now come to know and appreciate each other better - the mixture of structured exercises, conversations, games and exercise enabled great leaps to be made in just a few days.
The participants returned home exhilarated - and some promised that this would certainly not be the last time they had been to CoCoNat.
